You changed the rule
No longer only
to do no harm
But to do good
Positive
Not negative
We are not to refrain
From bad things
To follow Jesus
We are to actively
Love like Jesus
To follow Jesus
We are no different
From the rest
When we invite our friends
To dinner
We are no different
From the rest
When we care for our children
Our family
Instead
You ask us to care
For those who hate us
For those who disrespect us
For those who fight against
What we believe
And not just to care
To actively seek
Good in their lives
Good health
Good shelter and love and nourishment
The same things we want
For ourselves
Only in this way
Can we receive our reward
Only in this way
Can we be called sons and daughters
Of the Most High
Agape love
God’s love
How can others know
Of God’s love
If they do not see it in us
We are the messengers
The only mercy others will know
Is the mercy we show them
How can others know
Of the grace of God
Unless we tell them
With our lives
