When we think we have you figured out
You surprise us
We follow all the rules and regulations
And find there is so much more
We look in vain
For the places you are meant to be
According to our understanding
And find our understanding
Falls short
You listen to us
And ask us questions
You speak to us of wisdom
And we are amazed
Sometimes we make the mistake
Of thinking you belong to us.
You don’t
the kingdom of heaven is your home
Your message of love
Is greater than our need of you
But you take pity on us
You meet us at the level of our knowledge
And lead us from where we are
We ponder what it all means
Our hearts will break
At the sacrifices we will make
And joy will fill the gaps
