Luke 1:57-80

father in heaven

for whom all children are precious

let us rejoice in the good gifts

given to those around us

let us celebrate your grace

let us not be imprisoned

by the way things have always been

open us up to a new name

a new way

a new us

teach us to walk in awe

of your mercy

help us to spread that grace

so that people wonder

at the goodness of god

as we have waited in the wilderness

like people of old

we have come to find your mercy

you have guided those before us

to bring us to this moment of salvation

a salvation to all people

and not to us alone

let us follow without fear

in the path you have set before us

may we prepare the way

showing forgiveness and mercy

as we have been shown

bring light to the darkness

of our despair

to all who are oppressed

to those for whom little light has shone

bring life to those who live

in fear for their life

living with the violence of war

of abuse

of prejudice and hatred

guide us in the ways of peace

within ourselves, our community

and the world.

give us strength

to be different
