Luke 7: 18 - 29

The theologians of my time

Do not convince me

Of their understanding 

Of this word

Had the trials of prison

Caused John to doubt

Or was it his followers

He sent for comfort

I know that in the midst

Of suffering

Most of us

Question God

Whether we admit to it

Or not

The biggest stumbling block

For non-believers

Is not science

It’s suffering

Jesus brings us back

To ministry

To healing those

In need

John was special

He prepared the way

He called for repentance

He rejected those who didn’t want

To give up their comfortable lives

He led by example

But John lived under

Old rules

The kingdom of heaven

Turns the world order

Upside down

It is the poor and needy

That respond to the call

hat lead

Those that John prepared

Embraced Jesus

And the message he taught

The religious

The theologians

The proudly moral

Rejected his words

They saw no need

Of repentance

They saw no need

Of change

They saw no need

Of giving up their superiority

We understand only in part

But you continue to speak

A message of service
