Once again
You show your love
To a woman
Without hope
Your disciples
Saw this compassion
For women
Eccentric
And unsettling
Even a gentile man
Could be worthy of
A miracle
If he supported
Jewish men
Matthew and Mark
Don’t even bother
With her story
She was a widow
Without expectations
Of deliverance
She knew
What her life would be
She had no faith
What she had was
Sorrow
And great need
You saw her
You spoke to her
First
And gave her son
Back into her life
We don’t know if he was a
Good son.
It doesn’t matter
He was her sole support
Her defender
Against starvation
Or shame
How much of her grief
Was for the loss
Of her son
How much
Was for the loss
Of her own life
Only you know
You saw her
You resurrected her life
When you
Resurrected his
And no one talked about
Who was worthy
